About The Fishing in Banderas Bay

El Banco (El Bajo)

El Banco / The Banks is one of the premier fishing sites in the Banderas Bay area. Located approximately 43 miles northwest of Marina Riviera Nayarit (La Cruz)/ El Banco is an area where the structure of the sea floor meets the surface and it lies in the migratory path of the Yellowfin Tuna. The trip to El Banco is about two hours but many anglers say it is well worth the trip as here you will find a variety of world class trophy level fish. Not just tuna, El Banco is also home to Blue and Black Marlin in the 400 pound range and some claim the range is up to 1000 pounds. Perhaps one of these big ones will be yours for the taking. These are not the only large variety fish in the El Banco area - you will also find Dorado, Sailfish, Wahoo, Jack Crevalle, Snapper and more. If you are looking for a challenge, a trophy, bragging rights a chance to bring in the catch of a lifetime then El Banco is a spot not to miss.

La Corbeteña (La Piedra)

La Corbetena is world famous as a fantastic fishing destination. Located about 29 miles from Marina Riviera Nayarit, La Corbetena is an undersea mountaintop surrounded by acres of smaller tuna and other "bait fish" for the bigger game fish that will challenge any angler.

They say the biggest and the best of the trophy fish can be found at La Corbetena. The Black Marlin in this area can hit up to 1000 pounds with 400 -500 pounders not unusual. The Blue Marlin compliment the Black in a similar pound range. But La Corbetena doesn't stop there, you'll also find Yellowfin Tuna of similar weights. Imagine yourself out there battling a 400 pounder, the reel spools, the rod bends and in some cases might even splinter.

Looking for more - yet another Marlin, the Striped is also here along with Wahoo and Dorado. Perhaps a prize Sailfish to mount on your wall is your goal, you'll find those too, along with Grouper, Amber Jacks, Snapper and Rainbow Runners.

Welcome to Corbetena where you'll find almost any variety of fish you desire in sizes that are sure to challenge even the most seasoned angler.

El Morro

Located just off the north end of Banderas Bay, this group of rock pinnacles makes for great fishing. The barnacle-covered rocks attract tuna up to 50 lbs, sailfish, dorado (mahi mahi), yellowtail, and more. Even though this area is about 15 miles from the marina, and not the trophy destination that Corbetena is, it is close enough to be targeted efficiently by pangas and smaller boats and it provides good action on seasonal migrators as well as resident fish.

The proximity is similar to the Marietas Islands, so it is common for boats to visit either one, or both areas, on any given day, depending on where the fish are biting.
